We have always wanted to assemble a family cookbook of our Grandmother's wonderful food, as well as each of her children's unique specialties. IMy memories transport me to the kitchen of each Aunt or to the mile-long family reunion table with absolutely every inch covered with the most wonderful food a child could taste. I knew which one made the best biscuits, the best pot roast, the best string beans, the best cole-slaw, the best cornbread...and which ones didn't! The Great Family Cookbook Project allows me to create a section for Mama Smith, and one for each of the 5 original descendents. Sub-sections within those 2nd generations can be added for each 3rd generation descendent, and so on. I've created an additional major section for everyone to be able to record special stories of our family times over the last 200 years. With the technology this application provides, each family member can work remotely to compile and submit their entries via computer. What GENIUS!! No more trying to get everyone to commit to the tedious task of handwriting or typing recipes and stories. No more trying to get all contributors to format their recipes uniformly. No more begging folks to meet submission time deadlines. No more getting blamed for some recipe not making the final cut! Each family member or family representative is responsible for their own section. I love that whoever wants a copy can go to the website and print their own in any format they wish. I also love that whoever wants a bound hardback copy can order the number they desire when the project is declared ready. I also love that updates can be made at any time online, so this document becomes a living, breathing, ever-expanding family legacy that grows with each new generation. The Great Family Cookbook Project has given my family the gift of a lasting treasure to be cherished for generations.

I just signed up for the Family Cookbook Project. I have not had time to move forward yet however, it looks very easy. Will write a better review once I really get started.

I’ve just started but it could not have been easier. In less than an hour I started the project and invited 22 people to contribute. Later on I was able to enter three recipes without any difficulty. The site walks you through all the steps and is very intuitive. I already received an email from one of the contributors who was invited to join. I could not be happier!

About Family Cookbook Project

Bill Rice has been exploring his ancestry for more than a decade, so he knows that tracking family traditions is hard work. One summer, over a delectable meal on Cape Cod, he and his family realized that one of the best ways to share their traditions with future generations was right on the plates in front of them. However, Bill wanted to go further than a standard family cookbook by creating heirlooms that share recipes as well as stories and photographs culled from several family members.

Bill’s high school friend Chip Lowell built the technology that was the backbone of the enterprise—and now forms the backbone of Family Cookbook Project, which makes its technology available to clans everywhere. The software allows creators to add personal touches to their books, from hand-written recipes to bookmarks made from the family’s favorite deli meat. It also sends email reminders to contributors, amasses recipes, and hosts an eclectic stock of templates and color schemes.
