The elderly, people with disabilities, and young children are most vulnerable to extreme heat exposure, which has caused more deaths in the United States than hurricanes, lightening, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined. In addition to working to prevent the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of low-income seniors, Family Eldercare cools off the homes of those most vulnerable to heat-related illness with its annual Summer Fan Drive, supplying fans, air conditioners, and other critical services to people in need.
The 21st Annual Summer Fan Drive helps low-income individuals avoid the life-threatening dangers of extreme heat by equipping low-income seniors, disabled individuals, and families with children in 11 Central Texas counties with fans and air conditioners. In addition to helping prevent heat exposure, the drive allows more than 250 of the organization's volunteers to identify other unmet needs, such as food, adequate housing, or medical care. Since 1990, the Summer Fan Drive has outfitted Central Texas homes with more than 60,000 fans and 700 air conditioners. Family Eldercare would like to continue to expand its reach and supply as many homes as possible with the means to battle extreme heat this summer. The organization can purchase one fan for $15 and fans can run for as little as two cents an hour while cooling a room by as much as six degrees.
Join G-Team and donate $15 to help purchase a fan for one low-income senior, person with a disability, or family with children. If G-Team members raise $450, then Family Eldercare can provide 30 homes with fans.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
