Children receiving treatment for life-threatening illnesses at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Benioff Children's Hospital often must travel long distances for treatment. While kids can stay in the hospital overnight during treatment, their family members must commute to and from the hospital, which can be both exhausting and prohibitively expensive for many families. Family House provides free temporary housing to families of ill children receiving care at UCSF who live at least 50 miles away, in two houses located within a mile of its medical center.
Both houses are named the Koret Family House, and feature private rooms as well as community-building common areas that include family rooms, playrooms, libraries, dining and kitchen facilities, and laundry rooms. The open nature of the buildings is designed to facilitate mutually comforting and supportive relationships among families who are experiencing similar situations. Both homes operate at nearly a 100% occupancy rate, and serve more than 2,000 families each year, many of whom have low-income status by UCSF standards. As a separate entity from UCSF, the locations are run by their own staff and receive no funding from the university, relying solely on donations for support.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Family House provide free temporary housing to families of children receiving medical care for life-threatening illnesses. If G-Team members raise $455, Family House can house one family for one week while their child is treated at the UCSF Children's Hospital. Each additional $65 raised will fund one night's stay for one family.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
