Horses carry novice riders around indoor arena while coaches teach riding techniques with one-on-one instruction in one-hour lessons
Horsemanship was once a vital skill, much like the ability to avoid sailing off the end of the earth or discern which pizza trees were poisonous. Master an ancient art of survival with today’s Groupon to Garlands Farm in Powhatan. Choose between the following options:
At Garlands Farm, instructor Lauren Martin guides equestrians of any skill level as young as 7 years old in the art of Western-style horsemanship during hour long one-on-one lessons. In the first lesson, Garland spends about 15 minutes teaching riders to bridle and harness a horse, and impart vital skills such as how to turn, stop, and win drag-race competitions before besteeded pupils embark on a 30-minute trot. Lessons culminate as students learn to unsaddle their horse and ready it for its return to the stable. In following sessions, Garland expounds on principles of balance and riding confidence, as well as riding techniques and appropriate rock anthems to forge a bond between rider and steed. Each session takes place in the training facility’s sprawling 168’x65’ indoor arena, replete with a lounge and viewing area.
