The Earth is an alluring enigma, balanced in the void of space upon two poles over which it sensuously spins and ineffably shimmies. Harness the power of your polarity with today's Groupon: for $25, you get a pole intro class and a pole basics class at The Girl Spot, in Trumbull (a $50 value).

The Girl Spot offers a women-only pole-based approach to fitness that falls outside the humdrum routines of the average gym experience. Combining kinetic fun and an intense workout, pole fitness tempers and tones core muscles, strengthens the cardiovascular system, and provides a female-centric feel-good environment far removed from the trash-talking ellipticals and gossipy barbells that fill most studio spaces.

In the one-hour intro class, aspiring pole pros get down to basics, learning simple walks, hand placement, pole turns, and two basic spins as they become acquainted with the vagaries of their metal partners. Once qualified for more advanced pole study, pupils move on to the one-hour pole basics class to tend the seeds planted during the intro session. The full class, normally lasting five weeks, covers pole sitting, floor work, transition moves, and mastering seven different pole spins, leaving twirlers enviably fit and able to impress both Doric and Corinthian columns. Class schedules can be found here.

The studio comes equipped with eight poles and a wooden dance floor to gently cushion delicate joints. Students are asked to dress in workout clothes that allow movement and to avoid any sort of oils or lotions before class, as they make poles too slippery for proper hand holds and dosey does.
