What You’ll Do
To create glass art, you need three things: fire, lungs, and an almost magic disregard for the way solid objects are expected to behave. During this class, even first-time glass manipulators will get the chance to bravely wield a torch and bend borosilicate glass into a colorful pendant. Over the course of two hours, they’ll get one-on-one instruction and learn to melt and mold this dynamic medium.
-
Glass Manipulation 101
The instructor will start with a lesson on terminology and safety, introducing participants to the studio’s gear while helping them avoid injury. -
Watch and Learn
Next, the instructor will make a pendant using colored and clear glass, demonstrating the steps you’ll take during your time with the torch. -
The Finished Product
After cooling overnight in an annealer, pendants will be ready for pickup the following business day.
The Studio
C&H Glassworks
Corey Silverman and Horace Marlowe founded their studio, C&H Glassworks, to build a community of likeminded creatives. They’ve collaborated with each other and major designers on major installations, such as a glass-and-metal Christmas tree for a Nieman Marcus flagship store and a modern piece for Denver steak house Guard and Grace. But they still get excited about teaching, which is why the duo offers an array of workshops for students eager to learn their hypnotizing art.
