Classic rock’s gripping riffs and anthemic sing-along choruses have the power to unite all generations of music fans. To keep fists pumping and lighters flickering all summer long, the marketing gurus behind Mammoth Inc. and Cricket Wireless Amphitheater present a series of concerts featuring performances by classic-rock veterans and tribute bands that bear a striking resemblance to their true-life counterparts.

Imagine Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, U2, and The Eagles––some of the most popular acts in music history––playing a show together. The Rock N’ Roll Dream Concert convinces audiences that this rich fantasy has become a reality with a lineup of spot-on cover acts, including Brain Damage, who expand minds until hats burst with its trippy homage to Pink Floyd. Houses of the Holy pays tribute to Led Zeppelin paying tribute to J.R.R. Tolkien in songs such as “Ramble On,” and Rattle and Hum ends potato famines in listeners’ hearts with songs plucked out of U2’s 12-album catalog. The Eagles’ tribute band, 7 Bridges Road, sends laid-back vibes through the crowd as it performs the easygoing country rock.

Later in the summer, Monsters of Mock hearkens back to the golden age of teased hair and spandex in a flamboyant evening of glam and heavy-metal tunes. Endorsed by Gene Simmons himself, Almost Kiss completely immerses itself in the role of the famed foursome with a set list of hits, elaborate face paint, and a suitcase filled with backup prosthetic tongues. Looks That Kill fearlessly shout at the devil and pine for girls, girls, and more girls in their impersonation of Mötley Crüe, KC/DC ignites the audience with TNT as they pay tribute to AC/DC, and the members of Poison Overdose shake their manes and talk dirty to fans in a tribute to Poison.

At the Summer Car Jam, rock ‘n’ roll giants perform to a lot packed with cars ready to partake in the world’s most enjoyable traffic jam. Mark Farner, the lead singer and guitarist of Grand Funk Railroad, rocks out classics such as “I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home)” and “Some Kind of Wonderful,” and Shooting Star blazes through early ’80s hits such as “Touch Me Tonight” and “You’ve Got What I Need.” Canadian guitar wizard Pat Travers, a hero to fellow axmen such as Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, makes fret-riders drool with his driving six-string antics. Jim “Dandy” Mangrum leads Black Oak Arkansas in southern jam-rock classics such as “Hot Rod” and “Jim Dandy” after an opening performance from local rockers Racy Grace.

For the Summer Car Jam, one ticket gains admittance for an entire carload of passengers. All passengers must have seat belts. There is no size limit for vehicles, meaning the ticket is good for cars, party buses, limos, passenger vans, and stretch monster trucks.
