For Valentine’s Day, Old School 94.5 FM loads their Love Train concert with a precious cargo of living R & B legends for a soulful evening of romantic hits. Conducting the train, actress, author, chef, and incomparable chanteuse Patti LaBelle shows off the roof-raising soprano that landed her in the Grammy Hall of Fame, Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers. From her seminal ’70s group LaBelle, which made the disco movement danceable with the landmark hit “Lady Marmalade,” to her solo classics “If You Asked Me To” and “On My Own,” LaBelle’s enduring catalog taught millions of listeners their first French entendre and how to handle a breakup with Michael McDonald. For the Love Train show, LaBelle breaks out favorites from her songbook and hits every note like they owe her royalties.
Also performing, New Edition members Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill bring their ice-cool harmonies and new jack swing to the stage under their new moniker Heads of State. Other soul legends aboard the Love Train include Phil Perry crooning his hit “Call Me,” Tony Terry reminding listeners of his chart-dominating song “With You,” and ex-Con Funk Shun lead singer Michael Cooper.
