Those who know they learned everything they need to know in kindergarten shouldn't be allowed to drive, but they do know that painting ceramics is ecstatic craftitude. For $15, today's deal gets you $35 worth of pottery to paint at Glazed Over Ceramic Studio in West Houston. Glazed Over is a spacious, comfortable studio where friends and family can paint, stencil, and sponge imagery that's wildly innovative, beautiful, or commemorates the ancient Athenian victory at Marathon onto pottery ready to be filled with flowers, pencils, or just wishes.
Your evening begins with you selecting any of Glazed Over's pottery options such as plates, jugs, mugs, tiles, and bowls. Next, you pick out some paint colors and tools and unleash your inner artiste while chilling to music and sipping on soda, juice, or water; bring your own beer or wine to the studio and order from one of the delivery menus in the studio to enjoy while painting. Studio time costs $5 for children and $6 for adults, plus the cost of the piece, which ranges from $9 to $50 (many cost around $12). Once you're finished, Glazed Over glazes over and fires your piece in a kiln; it'll be ready for pick-up in about seven days. All Glazed Over's pottery pieces are dishwasher- and microwave-safe.
The well-lit, cheerful studio is a great place to get friends together for a small ceramics gathering, ceramics rave, or first ceramics date rave. If you don't know how to paint, or only know how to paint the Venus of Urbino on a divan made entirely of butter, the friendly staff can help you draw a stegosaurus. Kids love learning crafts, so get multiple Groupons and make it a family affair—or let loose with paint-slinging thrills on a girls’ night out or all-ages bachelor party.
Reviews
Parent reviewers at GoCityKids picked Glazed Over Ceramic Studio as best place for a parents' night out and best artsy class for big kids. Two Citysearchers and a lone Yahoo! Local give it five stars:
- Glazed Over is the absolute best for "paint-your-own-pottery." The staff is friendly and helpful, without being overbearing, and there is plenty of space to stretch out. I've been to other studios in Houston, and this is BY FAR THE BEST. – txaggie94, Citysearch
- Great place for kids and adults to get creative. A must do with the kids! – mommysteph, GoCityKids
