Consider the fact that this composer-performer has -- deep breath -- won a MacArthur Genius Grant, been nominated for a Grammy, been called "boundless and deeply important" by LA Weekly and been named DownBeat Magazine's 2014 Pianist of the Year (just like he was in 2012, when he was also voted "Artist of the Year," "Small Group of the Year" [for the Vijay Iyer Trio], "Album of the Year," and "Rising Star Composer of the Year").
