The Issue: Lost Pets Euthanized as Strays
When cats and dogs get lost or injured, they can have difficulty finding their way back home. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that an average of 6–8 million dogs and cats enter shelters every year. Of those, more than three million are euthanized. Yet, many of these deaths could be prevented by simply reuniting the pet with its family.
The Campaign: Implanting Microchips to Locate Pets
If this Grassroots campaign raises $300, then Charm City Animal Rescue can microchip 30 pets. Each additional $10 raised will fund a microchip procedure for another animal. Implanted microchips with a permanent ID can improve the chances of finding pets if they become lost and are taken to a veterinarian’s office or shelter. There, technicians scan the pets before proclaiming it to be a stray.

About (Grassroots) Charm City Animal Rescue
In 2007 Michelle Ingrodi found a kitten lying abandoned in a gutter. At that moment, she decided to work for rescues around the city, and shortly thereafter founded a rescue to get kittens out of feral colonies and off the streets. Charm City Animal Rescue represents a network of volunteer animal lovers and foster families who work together to rescue and socialize homeless animals. They spay or neuter companion animals they find on the streets, provide all of their shots and medical care, test them for aggressive behavior, and place them in permanent adoptive homes.
