Donations help fund materials and instructor fees for youth to participate in a creative drum circle at a Free Art Day
The Issue: Arts for Youth Expression
For children who are homeless or living in foster care and have few creative outlets, the arts can be a bridge to communication, teaching them how to express strong emotions such as anger and anxiety without resorting to violence. Music especially allows children to channel their emotions while simultaneously helping them build confidence, self-esteem, and healthy relationships.
The Campaign: Fostering Youth Expression Through Music
For every $6 this Grassroots campaign raises, Free Arts for Abused Children can sponsor one child's participation in a drum circle at the organization's Free Arts Day program. The first 16 donations—with an anonymous donor matching donations up to $100—will fund drum-circle participation for two children. Each additional $6 raised will fund drum-circle participation for one child. After 50 donations, additional donations will go toward purchasing materials and covering instructors' fees for another Free Arts Day event.
During the Free Arts Day, roughly 50 youth aged 2–18 will learn to play complex rhythms with professional musicians in a drum circle. With authentic percussion instruments, they can find their own beat and then combine it with those of other participants to create a larger rhythm.
All donations will be matched up to $100 total by an anonymous donor. You can follow the progress of this and other Grassroots campaigns at the Groupon Grassroots website.
