The Issue: Isolation Among Elderly Female Population
Women make up 70% of the senior home population, and 46% of them are without children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Social isolation and feelings of loneliness are often a reality for these women, many of whom are widowed and may not have a relative to visit them.
The Campaign: Hosting Makeovers for Seniors
If this Grassroots campaign raises $500, then GlamourGals teen volunteers can provide complimentary beauty makeovers and manicures to female seniors during the first Chicago Mega Makeover event held at the adult day-services program at the Chinese American Service League on August 13. GlamourGals will provide all the necessary supplies for the makeovers, as well as special gifts for the senior women. The money will also be used to sponsor the registration fee for a Chicago high-school student to continue visiting female seniors on a monthly basis. Each additional $200 raised will be used to sponsor the registration fee for another Chicago high-school chapter.

GlamourGals helps organize and inspire teenagers to connect with elderly women living in senior homes by providing complimentary beauty makeovers, as well as companionship. CEO and founder Rachel Doyle created the first chapter of GlamourGals when she was 17 as a way to honor her grandmother. Today, GlamourGals has 68 chapters across the country, with more than 1,400 volunteers providing beauty, compassion, and friendship to seniors.
