The Issue: Cat Overpopulation and Euthanasia
If cats aren't spayed or neutered, one male and one female can produce as many as 12,000 cats in five years. This overpopulation leads to overcrowded shelters, where homeless cats are often euthanized simply due to lack of space. In the Atlanta area, euthanasia rates in 2010 were as high as 80% in certain counties, according to statistics compiled by Stopping Pet Overpopulation Together, a program of the Southern Hope Humane Society.
The Campaign: Vaccinating Kittens in Need of Shelter
If this Grassroots campaign raises $400, then Good Mews Animal Foundation can provide eight kittens with the vaccinations they need to be moved from foster homes to its no-kill shelter. This frees up foster homes to take in animals from the overcrowded county shelter. Each additional $50 raised will be used to give vaccines to another fostered kitten so it can move to the shelter.
