Young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)—which include a range of disabilities such as Down syndrome and autism—often feel excluded and isolated from their peers, which can lead to solitary behavior that may carry over to adulthood. The Best Buddies Ambassador training creates opportunities for those with IDD to socialize, share their life stories, spread awareness about IDD, and successfully integrate at school and in the workplace.
Best Buddies Ambassadors receive training with a mentor buddy in speech writing and public speaking so they can become advocates for those with IDD and the Best Buddies programs. They learn the necessary tools to help spread awareness about IDD, with the goal to eliminate the use of the word "retard" from everyday language and ultimately create opportunities for others with IDD to socialize and become more involved citizens in their communities. After completing training, Ambassadors can speak to local legislators and Best Buddies chapters, train others with IDD, and work at recruitment fairs and other Best Buddies events.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help people with IDD develop leadership and public-speaking skills. If G-Team members raise $300, then Best Buddies Central Florida can host an Ambassadors training program for 10 high-school students with IDD and their mentor buddies. The costs of the training program include marketing materials for mentor recruitment, food and beverages, training materials, and room rental. Each additional $300 raised will cover the costs for another Ambassador training program.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100 percent off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
