Though reading and writing skills are crucial for students' success in high school, college, and later in their careers, only 33 percent of Wisconsin's fourth-grade students were identified as proficient readers in a 2010 report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (BGCGM), one of Milwaukee's largest and oldest youth-serving organizations, provides literacy programs for its members that focus on improving reading skills before students reach the fourth grade.
The organization would like to purchase more books to ensure that all members have reading material for its programs and during the upcoming Read Across America events, where volunteers will read to young members to honor Dr. Seuss's birthday at various clubs from February 22 to March 2. After the events, the books will help keep the Clubs’ libraries stocked for afterschool use as well as literacy games and reading with BGCGM volunteers.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help kindergarten through third-grade students improve their reading skills. If G-Team members raise $400, then BGCGM can purchase 40 books that will be used at the Read Across America events and then to stock the organization’s libraries. Each additional $10 raised will be used to purchase another book.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100 percent off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
