Kids who regularly commune with nature can glean the physical benefits of healthy outdoor activity as well as extra helpings of scientific knowledge, and the Puget Sound region offers plenty of prime real estate for hiking through the woods, watching vegetables grow in a garden, and exploring the rocks in a tidal pool. IslandWood teaches children about environmental stewardship by providing in-school programming, training schoolteachers, and inviting students to its outdoor classroom that spreads over a 255-acre natural environment on Bainbridge Island.

IslandWood’s School Overnight Program integrates scientific inquiry, technology, and the arts into an outdoor-learning experience that connects students with nature both physically and intellectually. During the four-day experience, students from low-income urban communities learn about the evolution of Blakely Harbor, collect data on local animals and insects, and stifle ticklish giggles as they calculate their ecological footprints. Traversing both land and water, kids can hold tree frogs and recite lines from Hamlet to pinecones as they engage in guided activities that focus on the arts, critical thinking, and problem solving. IslandWood provides its School Overnight Program to children from low-income communities at a reduced cost to their families, but the organization requires additional funding to cover program expenses including staff, outdoor gear, materials, meals, and lodging.

Join G-Team and donate $10 to help provide children from low-income urban communities with an opportunity to explore the natural world. If G-Team members raise $500, then IslandWood can cover the costs for two children to attend its four-day School Overnight Program. Each additional $250 raised will fund the School Overnight Program for another child.

Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
