Senior citizens and people living with disabilities or illnesses are at a higher risk for hunger because they often lack the physical mobility needed to access food. Among public housing residents, particularly those living in poverty or dealing with language barriers, the problem is most severe. Solid Ground strives to provide these individuals with access to resources and opportunities through services designed to meet their needs and promote dignity. In 2010, the organization provided shelter, food, transportation, and other services to more than 64,500 people in need throughout the community.
Through Grocery Delivery, one of Solid Ground’s Partners in Caring projects, Solid Ground coordinates weekly grocery deliveries for seniors and people living with disabilities at seven Seattle Housing Authority buildings. Each bag of groceries contains essential, nutritious items, including fresh produce, eggs, meat, grains, and a loaf of bread. Additionally, the program helps identify when these adults are declining in health and wellness, and connects them with community resources to help sustain them. The program delivers groceries to 75 people each week.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Solid Ground’s Grocery Delivery project provide 50 households with a week’s worth of groceries. If G-Team members raise $500, then Solid Ground can deliver the groceries to people in need. Each additional $10 raised will fund another household’s groceries for one week.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
