A Chat with J.A. Werthman Music Lessons
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
I draw from over five years of experience teaching and 16 years playing music to create an effective, easygoing teaching method. I’ve taught ages 5–60, including [individuals with] special needs such as Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, and terminal brain cancer. I’ve learned what really matters in a music lesson: having fun!
Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
Except for in-home lessons, drums are provided. You may obtain your own instruments and gear at whatever pace you feel comfortable. Guitarists, bassists, and ukulele [players], please bring your instruments with you.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
As a music student in college, I began teaching to make extra money and soon realized it’s the job for me! I love meeting new students, building relationships, and watching musicians grow. Nothing feels better to me than succeeding in passing on my musical passion and knowledge to new musicians!
What do you love most about your job?
I love learning about my students’ lives and figuring out how playing music can become part of your personality. Whether it’s classical, rock, pop, jazz, R&B, or funk, I can’t wait to meet new students and help them learn more about the type of music that they want to create!
