Because suave, effortless style isn't exactly effortless, the male-grooming experts at John Allan's men's club make grooming a comfortable, relaxing experience. With today's Groupon, you get The Full Service at John Allan's exclusive men's salon for $34 ($65 value).
Your full service begins with a scalp massage and shampoo that will remedy your manly stresses and dirty tresses. After a conditioning treatment and soothing hot towel, the expert and friendly stylists will give you a haircut that challenges previous notions of what good haircuts are. A no-frills manicure ensures your hands will invite pigskin, briefcases, and hot dates, and a shoeshine polishes up your manly duds. A complimentary beverage makes the whole treatment the ultimate in relaxation.
With convenient locations in Financial District, Midtown, Sax Fifth Avenue, and Tribeca, this exclusive deal is the perfect ending to a long day at work or a smooth beginning to a long night out. Each location offers different amenities, and you may want to stay longer with features like billiards tables and a private club room. Because men need scalp massages, too, grab this Groupon for yourself or the dull shoe–donning men in your life.
John Allan's grooming products and services are featured on savvy men's blogs like Gear Patrol, Uncrate, and Men.Style.com, as well as in magazines like American Way, Cigar Aficionado, US Weekly, and others. - I recently had a full service treatment at John Allan's, and after spending an hour or so there, I decided to join for a year! The staff is visually appealing and efficient, and the place is relaxing without being too fluffy... – MBarbiere, Citysearch
- Hands down the best haircut and the most wonderful setting for a man to get a haircut and a shine. The moment you walk in your Jacket and Bag and quietly placed in the coat check. Feel like a drink? How about a beer? Enjoy a cold one as you sit in an amazing leather arm chair while a true expert makes you look like a million. – johnmikhael, Citysearch
- Falling just short of waiting at the door with the newspaper and slippers, John Allan's helpful army of female staff work hard to make you feel like a king, if not for just an hour. – Mark A., Yelp
The First Hair Cut
When we think of cavemen, we think of long hair, and for good reason: the first men’s haircut did not occur until 1983, on the set of the Tom Cruise hit, Risky Business. During a break from filming, key grip Eric Sheets, mad with rabies, grabbed a pair of scissors and cut his knee-length hair. The effect was both stunning and immediate: the rabid Sheets looked great.
The film’s stylists copied Sheets’s new look for the film’s star, and Cruise leapfrogged in popularity over long-haired movie stars like Paul Newman. Short hair, along with fingerless gloves and medieval broadswords, came to define men’s fashion. Today, long hair for men is seen most frequently among heavy-metal music fans and employees of historical reenactment villages.
