Designed by renowned clubber Arnold Palmer, The Legends Walk Course challenges players through nine holes of rolling hills, rustic water ponds, and pristine FloraDwarf grass greens. Before stepping onto the course, golfers acquaint themselves with rental clubs by firing off range balls in the practice area and then sitting down cross-legged for a round of "two truths and a lie." Five sets of tees to afford each player a suitable challenge, and a gauntlet of trees, bunkers, and small ponds calls for use of nearly every club and the occasional badminton racket. After teeing off, golfers drive and chip over Bermuda grass fairways while eschewing motorized carts in favor of walking on a course designed to evoke the early days of the game, when carts were only used for tie-breaking drag races. Golfers can request to play as many rounds as the club's schedule allows, playing as late as 9 p.m. beneath the lights.
The Legends Walk Course allows each adult golfer to be accompanied by one junior golfer (15 years old or younger), who can play complimentary rounds with free rental clubs while learning the tricks of the game.
While Orange Lake Resort offers discounted greens fees for Florida residents, today's Groupon is still the best deal available.
Orange Lake Resort
The scenic fairways, greens, and hazards of four golf courses blanket the grounds at Orange Lake Resort, drawing in golfers with layouts designed by some of the game's premier architects. Beyond the signature course designed by Arnold Palmer, the resort makes use of native pines, wetlands, and flowing water in a pair of nine-hole executive courses. Each of the courses also sells name-brand apparel, accessories, and equipment in their onsite pro shops. In addition, a full range of practice facilities—from lighted driving ranges to putting greens and chipping greens—lets golfers hone their skills before their big-stakes auditions for the Tin Cup sequel.
Elsewhere on the resort, visitors can relax in a 1,200-foot-long lazy river, tan on beaches surrounding an 80-acre lake, or explore the bars, restaurants, and shopping centers that populate four villages covering 1,450 acres of the Orlando tropics.
