The Issue: Neglected Animals in Need of Medical Care
Neglected animals abandoned at shelters often come in emaciated, with broken bones, covered in fleas, and plagued by skin or respiratory infections. Most shelters do not have adequate resources to treat these animals, and if left in poor condition, they will have difficulty finding adoptive homes.
The Campaign: Funding Medical Care for Neglected Dogs
If this Grassroots campaign raises $600, then Mended Hearts Indy can fund veterinary care for three neglected dogs. Each additional $200 raised will fund veterinary care for another dog. The veterinary care includes a comprehensive exam, vaccinations, a microchip, two antiparasitic medications, and a spay or neuter surgery. Dogs who come in underweight or with skin conditions will receive a high-calorie supplement along with topical and oral antibiotics. Donations will be matched up to $600 by USA Roofing and matched up to another $600 by an anonymous donor.

Mended Hearts Rescue
Founded by a pair of animal lovers, Mended Hearts Rescue is dedicated to the rehabilitation and rehoming of animals of all breeds, ages, and capabilities. To date in 2013, Mended Hearts Rescue has transferred and treated 97 dogs from city shelters that needed special care following a period of neglect. Once rescued, a veterinarian—and in some cases a behaviorist and specialty veterinarian—examine animals and establish a plan to rehabilitate them. When dogs are healthy, their profiles are posted on Petfinder to help find them loving homes.
