Great service great pies

Poetry would be comprised entirely of haikus and sonnets dedicated to pies and pastries if poets didn't devour their idyllic subjects before having a chance to write. Today's Groupon says what meter and rhythm cannot: for $10, you get $20 worth of award-winning pies from Michele's Pies. To redeem this Groupon, customers will place orders by phone, and then pick up their fresh-baked goods at the welcoming Norwalk shop.

Michele's Pies offers handmade, home-style pies dressed with fresh fruit, fine spices, and the occasional 4-foot tall trophy. Michele's circular wonders have won a slew of awards, including seven first-place finishes in the 2010 National Pie Championships for savory and sweet pies such as lemon-lime blackberry, tiramisu, key lime, and coconut custard. These pies, along with a mouthwatering number of original recipes, decorate a lengthy list of luscious options ($7–$9 for a 5" pie; $20–$30 for a 9"). Michele also serves up a wealth of tea breads, brownies, turnovers, and more, and offers a variety of coffees and drinks to keep visitors running when they stop through the shop.

Reviews

Michele’s Pies has won several awards from the American Pie Council and has received loads of press from media outlets such as Good Morning America, the New York Times in 2008 and 2010, and the Hartford Courant. Five Yelpers give it a 3.5-star average:

  • If you’re one of those people who thinks that pies come in a mere three or four flavors, you owe yourself a visit to Michele’s Pies, where pie fillings range from fruits and nuts to butterscotch to just about everything in between. – Christopher Brooks, New York Times
  • The lessons from her mother's mother, Louise Rondano, were basic but remain fundamental at Michele's Pie's today: Use fresh ingredients — seasonal fruit only. Tailor sugar, spices and thickeners to the fruit — that means taste it. And don't ever, ever, ever overwork the — Crisco only — crust. – Jan Ellen Spiegel, the Hartford Courant

About Michele's Pies

As a child, Michele Stuart worked alongside her grandmother, peeling fruit, crimping dough, and assisting in other tasks to create decadent pies. Before her grandmother passed away, Michele vowed to make her pies famous. It's safe to say she has made good on that promise. Since founding Michele's Pies in 2007, her creations have won 27 national awards, and have garnered praise from outlets including the Food Network, QVC, and the New York Times. Her pies run the gamut from sweet to savory, and her display case also shines with handmade cookies, tea breads, cheesecakes, and other baked goods.
