If Mozart's pastry recipes hadn't been stolen by a jealous rival on his deathbed, the world would recognize him as the greatest baker who ever lived, instead of the composer of minor works such as "that one that goes bum, ba-bum, ba-bum-bum-bum-bum-BUM" and "that song in every college commercial that's actually by Bach." Today's sugarcoated Groupon gives you a taste of what might have been with $15 worth of desserts, pastries, and cakes at Mozart's Bakery & Piano Cafe for $5. Mozart's sells European delicacies in an Old World atmosphere with live classical piano music. The 15-year-old patisserie is a Clintonville classic for its perfect pastries and its community outreach efforts. Enjoy their European-style pastries at both locations, or head over to Clintonville for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Mozart's bakes everything from pocket-sized petit fours and pastries to large, non-cupped cakes. The signature treat is a marzipan peach, delicate peach buttercream and raspberry preserves inside a pastry shell that's wrapped in marzipan ($24.95 for an eight-piece gift tin). Mozart's cookies and biscuit choices include cranberry almond biscotti ($1.69) and apricot linzer tea cookies ($13.95 for an assortment). Check out the menu of holiday specials for a Yule log (moist yellow sponge cake rolled with raspberry preserves and chocolate buttercream - $27.95) and guilt-free, not-brought-to-life gingerbread men ($1.50 each). Breakfast pastries such as apple strudel ($2.99), filled croissants ($1.99), and European coffee cake ($2.95 per slice) tingle taste buds to reawaken lost flavors, like a trolley that has jubilantly come to life and is saddened by its obsolescence.

The owners, Anand and Doris Saha, met in Switzerland while Anand was studying hotel management and Doris was training as a professional pastry chef. Much like Mozart, they decided to move to Columbus and start an authentic European bakery set to the moving music of Mozart and other musical masters. Stop by on Friday nights to hear live jazz, or on January 30 to celebrate Mozart's birthday with a day of live brain-wrinkling, Salieri-irritating classical music.
