What You'll Get

Unlike a sand witch, a sandwich doesn't have the power to turn men into sand and sand into poisoned glass. A sandwich can cast a devastating spell on hunger pains with today's Groupon: for $7, you get $15 worth of sandwiches and baked goods at Nicavid's Bakery & Cafe. Located near the intersection of Highway I-10 and I-410, Nicavid's is open weekdays for breakfast treats and savory lunch eats.

Most know that the way to an iguana's heart is through its stomach, but it is useful to remember that human stomachs can be reached through the mouth, nose, eyes, and—if it's an emergency—the number written on the refrigerator's dry-erase board. Today's Groupon for Nicavid's artisanal bakery stimulates your gentle iguana heart with a sensational menu. Made-from-scratch pastries ($1.20–$2.40) include croissants, Danishes, sausage-stuffed kolaches, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and sticky buns. For lunch, Boar's Head meats and cheeses are artfully sandwiched between such delicious handles as flaky buttered croissants and flavorful beer bread and can be customizable creativity vessels ($7.25 for whole, $5.65 for half) or Nicavid's own established creations. The charming café is known for its Monterey chicken sandwich—homemade chicken salad served with bacon, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and avocado on a croissant ($7.95 for whole, $6.15 for half). The Tuscan roast beef ($8.25 whole, $6.38 half) rolls over the tongue like an Italian romance novel with blue-cheese crumbles, sautéed mushrooms and onions, lettuce, tomato, and honey-balsamic vinaigrette on toasted beer bread. Well-composed soups ($2.95–$3.95) and salads ($2.95–$6.95) are also delicious, such as the rabbit and redhead favorite: carrot-ginger soup.

Owners Amy and Josh are classically trained chefs whose love for sandwiches encouraged them to sandwich their middle names (Nicole and David) to produce “Nicavid's.” Nicavid's prides itself on being a community bakery where everyone can come together to enjoy the aroma of fresh bread and pastries wafting through the air.
