Future opera singers are easily identified at birth due to their multi-octave crying and graceful bows as they emerge from the womb. Check out how far these tiny miracles have come with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get one left- or right-front orchestra ticket to Lucia di Lammermoor at Opera Birmingham (a $70 value). This Groupon can be redeemed at Opera Birmingham's office on Sixth Avenue South, and the performances will take place at the Wright Center at Samford University on Lakeshore Drive. Choose between two performance dates:
- Friday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m.
- Sunday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m.
For more than 50 years, Opera Birmingham has been belting out euphonious episodes of operatic epics and arpeggios with world-class productions as northern Alabama's only professional, regional opera company. Huntsville native Susanna Phillips returns to the Birmingham stage to sing the title role of Gaetano Donizetti's heart-wrenching work. Set in Scotland, this tragic tale centers around an emotionally fragile girl, Lucia, caught in a feud between her family and the Ravenswood clan, a story filled with opera tropes of jealousy, secret love, and custard-filled pie fights. The Opera Birmingham Chorus and Alabama Symphony Orchestra accompany performances under the lights of the Wright Center of Samford University stage. All lyrics are sung in Italian with English translations projected above the stage for opera goers unable to survive on ear-candy alone.
