The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund strives to help women by funding research into a method of early detection—and ultimately a cure—for ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the deadliest form of gynecological cancer in the United States due to the absence of an effective screening test that would facilitate early diagnoses and to its subtle symptoms, which can be confused with those of non-cancerous conditions. The National Cancer Institute estimated that more than 21,000 women would be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2010.
While searching for a breakthrough in diagnosis, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund also provides funding to a variety of support services to aid women across the country. One such service is the Woman to Woman program, a one-on-one support network based at Mount Sinai Medical Center for women with gynecological cancer. Highly trained volunteers, each of whom is also a survivor of gynecological cancer, assist patients in their fight by providing emotional support and by providing education about preparing themselves for difficult treatment periods. Woman to Woman also includes a separate component to educate the partners and families of women in treatment about supporting their loved ones throughout their struggle. Over the past six years, more than 500 women and their families have received assistance from these mentors, and the program hopes to expand its model to other hospitals soon.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund support women battling gynecological cancer via the Woman to Woman program at Mount Sinai Medical Center. For every $300 G-Team members raise, a single patient will be enrolled in Woman to Woman and will receive access to support services as well as a patient fund to help cover out-of-pocket expenses during treatment.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
