Scuba diving is the only way left to find hidden treasure, befriend a nautical skeleton, or strap a huge tank to yourself. Explore the possibilities with today's Groupon: for $25, you get a two-hour Try Scuba class at Planet Scuba, located on North First Avenue (a $50 value).

Planet Scuba's Try Scuba course is a basic, all-equipment-provided introduction to aquatic escapades taught by Scuba School International (SSI)-certified instructors. During the class, an aqua guide will take scuba newbies through two hours of fins-on time in the Oro Valley Municipal Pool, which is guaranteed to be free of gangly grundylows and killer krakens. Students will learn about basic tank functions, how to put on and use scuba equipment, buoyancy control, and basic diving techniques. Those who are interested in continuing their underwater educations can swim toward open-water certification by signing up for further classes at Planet Scuba.

About Planet Scuba

Christopher Goodwill and Michael Makoid met while diving in the Sea of Cortez. The duo’s shared passion for scuba led them to found Planet Scuba; nowadays, they lead fellow divers on trips to the sea where they first met, as well as to Key Largo, St. Croix, and other exotic locales.

The shop arms patrons for independent dive trips as well with open-water certification courses. During 22 hours of coursework that combine classroom instruction and pool lessons, students learn basic diving techniques, such as removing the helium balloons tied to their wrists. Classes close with an optional overnight dive trip, on which students earn their certification. The gear store—which stocks equipment for snorkeling and swimming as well as diving—can equip aquatic explorers for any kind of expedition.
