The treadmill seems boring compared to muscle-toning pole-dancing techniques such as the “fireman”, the “bow-and-arrow,” and the “upside-down-straddle.” Today’s Groupon will encourage you to swap your stinky running shoes for booty shorts and bust out of your boring fitness routine. For $20, you get any two classes at Poise, including its popular pole dancing classes, a $40 value.
The classes at Poise are more Usher than Fred Astaire: choose from courses such as hip-hop, pole dancing, or flexibility and rhythm. You’ll gyrate, kick, and learn to effortlessly work the pole, while toning and tightening muscles you didn’t even know you had. Owner/instructor Jamie Capaldi-Gargani has an extensive dance background (she’s been trained in tons of genres from ballet to jazz to space jamming), so her lessons are easy enough to follow, even for those cursed with two left feet. Plus, she caps each class at eight students, so you’ll never feel neglected.
The studio, located inside Pennsport Mall, is small and inviting, making it feel more like your best friend’s living room than the inside of a club. Capaldi-Gargani swears she teaches her classes for hopeful hot steppers of every skill set. You’ll be relieved to find your classmates are real women, and not Beyoncé, So You Think You Can Dance cast-offs, or exotic dancers. She also stresses the absence of weight or age restrictions, encouraging all attendees to slither into a pair of short shorts, free of inhibition.
In addition to getting music-video-girl hot, you’ll also improve your balance, mature your dance moves, and increase your confidence.
