Like a taxidermied moose or an Englishman's upper lip, drinks are best when stiff. Savor strong spirits with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of cocktails and brews at Pulse Lounge in downtown Detroit.
Garnering attention from Detroit's Metro Times, Pulse Lounge lures young, high-energy crowds with the promise of sophisticated drinks, live DJs, and a hip, fashionable atmosphere. Nurse a specialty cocktail, such as the Forbidden, an exotic elixir made with Bombay Sapphire gin, Soho lychee liqueur, cranberry, and a splash of 7Up ($9), or live in the lap of luxury with a Paramount, a high-end blend of Stoli Elit vodka, Grand Marnier 150 Year, lime juice, and a dash of cranberry ($25). After a night of sweaty dancing and heated bird calls, palates can cool down with a Dark and Stormy, made with Gosling's Black Seal rum, ginger beer, and lemon ($7). Because it's difficult to hold delicate stemware while doing the hand jive, Pulse offers club-goers sturdy bottled beer ($4–$6), both domestics and imports, as well as rocks glasses gushing with fine bourbons and scotches (starting at $8).

- my favorite bar in Metro Detroit. Fresh decor in a long narrow space. Innovative drinks amuse interesting patrons. The crowd is young, positive and attractive. – Richard M., CityVoter
- Pulse is a posh bar in the heart of Detroit. It's a great place to get cocktails after dinner or before a night out on the town. – Eric K., Yelp, 8/12/2008
