Training at Pure Power Boot Camp is the closest you can get to achieving a soldier’s sculpted physique without running the risk of free college tuition. The fitness program mimics U.S. military training and gives its “recruits” the confidence to overcome obstacles and push themselves further past their comfort zones than they thought possible—all while getting super ripped. The program centers on a unique indoor obstacle course, with hurdles, a rope wall, and cargo-nets-posing-as-barbed-wire being just some of the obstacles on hand. And though students will get yelled at by the camp's instructors, the camp forbids insults or abuse, opting for positive reinforcement rather than pies to the ego. The program also emphasizes teamwork—each recruit joins a platoon of 10–16 comrades in soon-to-be-toned arms. Custom goal setting ensures that everybody succeeds, regardless of fitness ability or prior experience training for the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Instructors are all current or former military personnel—except for owner, founder, and “Commanding Officer” Lauren Brenner, whose full-throttle life mirrors the obstacle course she oversees. After playing Division I tennis in college, Brenner worked six years as a trader and broker in Wall Street’s trenches before acting in an off-Broadway play and founding Pure Power Boot Camp. Success has continued to obey Commander Brenner’s every order, with media outlets spreading the word of Pure Power Boot Camp through uncontested coverage. She even recently served as fitness contributor on the Today Show for seven months.
New clients only. All six sessions must be used within a two-week period.
Reviews
Pure Power Boot Camp was featured in USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, Fitness, and tons of other press from across the nation. Citysearchers give the program an average of 4.5 stars:
- Pure Power Rocks! I cannot say enough good things about this place. I was sold from day one when I took my first class taught by the owner herself. – sallyaya
- PPBC is amazing. I have never worked out so hard in my life. I’ve gone to the gym, had a personal trainer and the results were okay. But with PPBC you come out of class feeling amazing. This boot camp is far from boring and always challenges you. – jtormo
- I?ve [sic] tried all the diets, working out in the gym, and working with a personal trainer, but achieved mediocre results at best. With the help of PPBC, I?ve [sic] finally been able to get in solid shape. – davereinhold

About Pure Power Boot Camp
Clad in fatigues and soaking in sweat, the denizens of Pure Power Boot Camp lift logs, climb walls, and navigate obstacle courses. If it sounds like military boot camp, that's no accident; each of the drill instructors are current or former military members. Presided over by Lauren Brenner—who became a personal trainer at 16 before playing Division I tennis and working as a trainer for the Syracuse men's basketball team—each instructor leads a platoon that trains together multiple times per week. Pure Power Boot Camp's boot-camp training is ideal for adventure races like Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, or Warrior Dash as it incorporates real obstacles and situations. After their initial training, members can enroll in maintenance courses that help them keep their new bodies in shape and offer an excuse to see the climbing wall with which they fell in love.
