Some people are born to run; some are born to scramble up and down walls and ceilings like a Tokay gecko. Unleash your inner lizard with today's Groupon to climbers' paradise: for $22, you get the introductory deluxe climbing course at RockVentures, located on University Avenue (a $45 value). This Groupon expires four months from today's date.
RockVentures features an enormous indoor rock-climbing facility that sprawls like a ceilinged mountain range across 18,000 square feet of colorfully studded climbing surface. No prior wall-walking experience is needed for the introductory deluxe course, which teaches 10 basic cliffhanging techniques, safety skills, belaying procedures, and various drills for self-improvement. All necessary climbing equipment is included with the course at no extra cost. The deluxe package also provides four admissions to the facility (all must be used by the same customer), so freshly trained rock jocks have a chance to develop their talents and increase vertical versatility without the aid of the family hand-carved pogo stilts.
In the past, RockVentures has provided training to groups from the University of Virginia, the California Department of Education, and international companies. Experience the instruction of RockVentures' skilled staff for yourself and learn how to conquer the craggy cliffs and sudden drop-offs inconveniently situated in your apartment.
All participants must sign a waiver. Participants under 18 must have a signed waiver from a parent or legal guardian. Reservations are required.
At RockVentures, climbers of all ages and experience levels scale challenge-filled walls lining the 18,000-square-foot facility. Classes impart students with surefooted spirit and fundamental climbing skills such as belaying the rope for comrades. In addition to individual challenges, the center hosts several group events, ranging from team-building weekends to kids' birthday parties and summer camps. Rock Ventures grants discounted admission to veterans and their families with advance reservation on Saturday mornings, and helps disabled climbers conquer the rocks by using block-and-tackle systems to hoist themselves up.
Owner Kent Winchester informs his work at RockVentures with a multifaceted history of leadership and team-building experience, including a stint in the Peace Corps.
