Developmental disorders such as Asperger's and high-functioning autism present mental and physical challenges. Affected individuals can experience difficulty communicating and actively participating in social activities, and therapy in this area can pose an extreme expense for families who must also pay for assistance services and medical treatments. Shenanigans is an applied-theater program designed for children and adults affected by Asperger's, high-functioning autism, and other developmental disorders. The organization provides programming that employs improvisational acting, puppetry, and other methodologies to help participants practice social communication and make friends.
Shenanigans holds weekly summer camps for kids that are designed to entertain while also helping to improve social comfort and skills. Camps are structured around factors such as social-skill level, age, and sensory sensitivity. A variety of camp themes cater to the different needs of each participant, including sessions such as the stage-play theater camp, an active theater camp that teaches role-playing, theater terminology, music basics, and movement. Shenanigans matches each participant with the camp best suited to his or her needs and interests, and offers sponsorships to children whose families would not otherwise be able to afford to send them.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Shenanigans sponsor one week of summer camp for a child with a developmental disorder. If G-Team members raise $395, Shenanigans can sponsor one child to attend one week of summer camp. Each additional donation will go toward funding a week of camp for another child.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
