Shula’s Hotel and Golf Club challenges iron-swingers with The Senator Course, a par-72 championship golf arena known for its classic style and tropical vistas. The first few holes’ open and simple structures help players calibrate swings and midair high fives, prepping golfers to face the narrow fairways and pools of water featured on most of the back nine. Depending on which set of four colored tees guests choose to play from, the course forces balls to travel a total of 5,259 to 6,982 yards. Although originally designed in 1962 as a lawnmower-racing track, the course was renovated in 1990 by nationally renowned golf course architect Kipp Schulties. Tee times can be reserved up to five days in advance, and before or after their outing, dueling golfers can upgrade their equipment or style at Shula’s pro shop and practice facilities (not included in this Groupon).

Shula’s Athletic Club—named for Don Shula, the NFL Hall of Famer who coached the Miami Dolphins to a Super Bowl trophy in 1972—doesn’t find it hard to fill its sprawling 40,000 square feet of space. A cardio room with more than 50 pieces of equipment, a spinning center, weight rooms, fitness-class studios, and basketball courts spread through the facility, luring athletes for independent workouts and personal-training sessions. Dozens of weekly fitness classes range from calorie-burning Zumba workouts and Vinyasa-yoga sessions to spin classes that help students practice for the day they have pedal-powered cars.
