This was a very "hands-on" experience where everyone that attends gets involved with every step of the learning process. It was fun, informative, and enlightening and the guys that run the place strongly encourage keeping in touch with them after you go home and start to bake your own breads. I feel like a long lasting friendship has begun with these bakers as a result of attending this class.
  • Learn to grow sourdough yeast
  • Class lasts up to two hours
  • Materials provided

The breaking of bread symbolizes peace and partnership, while the piecing back together of bread symbolizes a baker regretting an earlier feat of strength. Forgo grand gestures with today's Groupon: for $40, you get a starter bread-making workshop from Sour Flour (an $80 value), held at La Victoria Bakery.

In addition to supplying customers with freshly baked sourdough loaves, the leaveners at Sour Flour lead workshops to introduce people to the art and science of bread making. The starter workshop, which lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours, teaches baking visionaries how to properly ferment flour and water to cultivate cadres of yeast that work to construct a bustling sourdough-tropolis. Students learn how to properly care for yeast terrariums, studying how time, temperature, moisture, and impromptu poetry slams affect the culture’s growth. To master how to transform starters into toasty loaves, each baker gets to make a from-scratch flatbread before taking their newborn bundles of bread beginnings home to meet older crumpet siblings.
