Enjoyed the course, particularly the back nine. The fairways were a little bare, but it is still very early in the growing season. The greens had been areated and sanded. The were slow but rolled true.

I was pretty excited to play at this members-only course. However, the experience was just average. The biggest disappointment for me is that Balcones Country Club would not honor the Groupon deal prior to noon on weekends. This was not listed in the fine print when I purchased the deal! I was also not very impressed with the course. I've played at municipal courses that are better maintained and more scenic than this. I won't be going back to BCC.

What You'll Get

Long ago, Scottish polo players longed for a game where they could explore scenic terrain, ride an obedient mechanical horse, and wear more courageously plaid knickers. Marvel in their subsequent invention with today's Groupon: for $49, you get a golf package for two at the Spicewood Course at Balcones Country Club, located off Route 183. Suit up with a UV-killing visor and green-conquering cleats as you and your chosen tee partner go head to head on the club’s golf course. A cart is included with today's deal, so you won’t have to macarena your way around the variously challenging 18-hole course; lunch for two plus two beers or non-alcoholic beverages will be provided to refuel depleted sports nodes. After the match, head to the pro shop and use your voucher ($5 per person) toward surprisingly intimidating polo shirts.

Reviews

Seven Citysearchers give Balcones Country Club an average of 4.5 stars:

  • We golf regularly at the various public courses around Austin, and Spicewood matches up very well. The course offers many challenges for the experienced player: big, looming hills, doglegs, and brush. – pbvincent
  • Scenic views of the Hill Country, lots of wildlife. Nice course at a good value. – JBrewer10

About Balcones Country Club

A majestic, 18-hole course encircles the stately grounds of Balcones Country Club, whisking golfers to an elysian landscape of dense tree lines and large, rippling waterways. The Balcones Course, features the club’s signature hole, a 155-yard par 3 where tee shots must clear a vast water hazard and a central fountain that spews the liberated souls of drowned golf balls. The club prepares greenhorn golfers with a bevy of classes offered through their golf academy, which range from typical private lessons to fitness programs offered by Titleist Performance Institute–certified trainers. A classroom equipped with video swing-analysis technology hosts intense investigations into corrupt swings, and a double-sided, lighted driving range fosters late-night reflections on whether or not golf balls are simply fallen stars.

A more frenetic pace of competition takes stage on the 10 courts that billet Balcones Country Club’s tennis program, and scampering tykes and weary adults can retreat to the club’s two outdoor pools for a more relaxing setting. Guests can fuel up for a day of recreation with a quick bite at the onsite grill or engage the community in the elegant, 250-capacity banquet hall.
