In addition to facing the pain and discomfort of aggressive treatments, chronically ill children and their families face daily worry and can experience a powerful sense of isolation. Starlight Children's Foundation Midwest, in conjunction with its worldwide affiliates, provides kids and families with ongoing programs that help them cope with these burdens, improve their understanding and management of their illnesses, and connect them with others who have similar experiences.
For more than 20 years, Starlight's Chicago–based Midwest arm has supported kids fighting cancer, cystic fibrosis, HIV/AIDS, and other ailments with ongoing services in and out of the hospital. As part of its efforts to boost the well-being of these patients, the organization holds special events—known as Great Escapes—throughout the year to bring groups of kids, as well as their families, together for recreational activities outside the environment of the hospital. Through proms, cooking classes, sports games, and other leisurely pursuits, Starlight helps foster a caring community characterized by common experiences and therapeutic benefits.
Starlight would like to sponsor a pottery-making event for an intimate group of 10 children and their families in Chicago, hosted by the local arts organization Artreach at Lillstreet. The ceramics session will give illness-affected clans a chance to meet, relax, and express themselves. Fees for the event will run $150 per family, so the foundation must raise $1,500 in order to reach the goal of bringing together a 10-family group.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Starlight Children's Foundation Midwest sponsor a Great Escape for chronically ill kids. If G-Team members raise at least $450, three families will get to attend the pottery event with Artreach at Lillstreet. Each additional $150 will provide admission for another family.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
