Jukeboxes can be custom-built to sport espresso machines and condiment dispensers, but a music player that flips sandwiches is still far from the reaches of modern technology. While today's Groupon fails to offer that machine, it does combine the sweet sounds of music with people who make sandwiches. For $15, you get $30 worth of drinks and made-from-scratch pub grub at The 6740 in Whittier. The pub was named Best Neighborhood Bar in LA in 2009 from MyFoxLA.
Gone are the days of lazy bar burgers built on beer-soaked buns and soups infested with over-salted peanuts. The cooks at 6740 hand-build custom creations for the people who nest in the place's cozily swiveling bar stools or seek shelter in the pub's sturdy red and gold wall seats below a soothing incandescent glow of booming jukebox tunery. Because any swimming pool needs pool toys, you can fill your stomach pool with fresh fare like garlic, thyme, and rosemary-marinated grilled herb potatoes ($5.95); signature Buffalo wings in spicy, regular, teriyaki, or barbeque sauce ($6.95 for a dozen); and 8 oz. Flatiron steak sandwiches ($10.95).
Parched whistles are invited to the draft pipes of more than 20 draft beers, featuring the hoppy timbres of Boddington's, Fat Tire, Pyramid Hefeweizen, Lagunitas' Seasonal, Budweiser, Guiness and more. They also over more than 30 bottled beers. The American pub is a much more civilized watering hole than the American trough or the American irrigation ditch, for it encourages food consumption straight down the pipe.
