What You'll Get
Bagels, like supermodels and electrified gazelles, can be difficult to get close to. Today’s Groupon lets you approach them without resorting to tranquilizer darts. For $3, you get $8 worth of bagels, bagel sandwiches, and more at The Bagel Company of Memphis, Memphis’s oldest bagel shop.
The Bagel Company's impressive menu packs 17 varieties of bagel into its fresh and toasty-smelling confines—including banana nut, cranberry, jalapeno cheddar, chocolate chip, top-seeded, and wheat. You can get them toasted ($1.10), with butter or jelly ($1.65), cream cheese ($1.75), flavored cream cheese ($2.35), or with onions and tomatoes ($.75 each). Bagels also appear as bready bookends to the eggel sandwiches ($3.45 for egg and cheese, $3.95 with meat) and as possible sides to traditional breakfast plates such as the corned beef and eggs ($6.95), the two-egg breakfast with hash browns ($4.29), steamy omelettes ($6.95 for most, $7.45 for a loaded deli option), and savory skillets ($6.95)—as well as lunchtime sandwiches ($6.95¬–$7.45) and wrapps ($6.79). Since drinking a bagel can be challenging, maintain sufficient hydration levels and avoid a life-altering bout of lil'-intestine dryness with free refills on coffee, iced tea, and fountain sodas.
Beyond its bounty of bagels, The Bagel Company's staff is so friendly and professional that they won't make fun of you if you get your nose stuck in your bagel hole—not even after the fire department rushes you to the hospital. The bagel shop is open seven days a week from 7a.m. until 2:30 p.m. for breakfast and lunch. Use this deal for dine-in or takeout.
The Commercial Appeal has chronicled a day in the life of The Bagel Company of Memphis's baker Reginald McCray, offering an oft-unseen side of the bagel business. Four Yelpers give The Bagel a solid four stars, as does a lone Insider Pager. Eighty-eight percent of Urbanspooners recommend the eatery:
