Winston Churchill was famous for the high standards he applied to alcohol, quipping that "Liquor is quicker, but get me a single malt scotch with moon rocks in it! I'm the English president!" Be like ol' Winnie with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of cocktails and wine at Vanguard Lounge.
Patrons perched on white-topped bar stools sip liquor, wine, and carefully mixed drinks in Vanguard Lounge's candlelit interior. House cocktails layer delicious relaxation upon thirsty groups, with brand selection dependent on the current stock and bartender’s daily horoscope. The classic Negroni evokes 1920s glamour with a swirl of Plymouth gin, Campari, and liquefied jazz riffs ($10), and reserve rum, passion-fruit puree, and sparkling wine sweetly intermingle in the Jean Fleury cocktail ($9). Alternatively, guests can sip 11 wines by the glass ($6–$14) as clock hands float past 9 p.m. and DJs pump house jams directly into visitors' veins Wednesday–Saturday.
Vanguard Lounge opened in 2010 with a bang, winning the awards for Best Lounge and Sexiest Wine List from Vegas Seven magazine. Since then, the hangout hasn't lost touch with what brought it to the party. The bartenders mix classic cocktails such as negronis (seven different kinds, in fact) as well as more ambitious concoctions such as the gin- and vodka-based Fuego Pepino, which is livened up with jalapeños and a few dashes of habanero bitters. A selection of wines and craft beers round out the all-liquid menu. Once guests receive their drink, they can find a seat inside the desert-toned lounge, migrate outside to the patio, or navigate to the dance floor where DJs spin four nights a week or until they get dizzy.
