Wine and beer classes allow fans to recreate an episode in the life of everyone’s favorite crime-fighting sommelier, Mr. Belvedere, without having to produce a hit ’80s sitcom. Raise a sophisticated glass or a world-wise mug at the Washington Wine Academy with today’s Groupon. Choose from two options:
- $25 for the one-hour Wine School ($45.50 value)
- $22 for the one-hour Beer School ($42.50 value)
Both classes are held in the Wine Academy Education Center, located on the ground floor of the Bennington Luxury Apartments in Crystal City. Enter through the main lobby after crossing the moat and defeating the minotaur keymaster.
One-hour tasting schools are the field briefings of discerning drinkers and amateur alcoholists alike, supplying critical information and first-tongue experience. The one-hour Wine School starts off with an instructor-led educational session on the origins and characteristics of each of the four selected wines, followed by a guided tasting and discussion. Pairings of Cabot Creamery cheeses are provided, and students get to keep their complimentary Washington Wine Academy–logo glass. The class won’t transmogrify students into master sommeliers, but afterward you’ll leave with an excellent mouth compass with which to navigate the treacherous seas of wine lists.
For brew-lovers who don’t want a brouhaha about their beloved beverage, the one-hour Beer School will provide basic information as well as exposure to four different beers. Cabot cheese pairings are provided, and the complimentary WWA glass will contain any beverage poured into it long after class is over. Like the wine course, the beer course is aimed at expanding students’ appreciation of finely crafted beverages, and students already familiar with the samplings can benefit from the expert literary instruction to deepen their knowledge of Old Yeller.
Clear a space in your social schedule, grab today’s bullish deal by a horn, and make Ben Franklin proud.
