About Yoga Tribe

Before he established Yoga Tribe in 2003, Jason Wilkerson had already been teaching Bikram yoga for seven years. That period not only allowed him to expand his own practice and develop his teaching style—it also helped him figure out what he wanted from his own studio. Namely, he cultivates a mellow, supportive community, welcoming students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to the Surf City studio. Here's what they're able to do at Yoga Tribe:

  • Hot yoga: Sessions incorporate the Dayton Method's standardized sequence of 28 asanas and 2 breathing exercises in a 105-degree room. Additionally, Warrior Flow sessions synchronize breath and movement in a slightly cooler room—only 98 degrees.
  • Non-heated yoga: The warrior flow class is designed to be both challenging and accessible to all levels of experience and physical ability. The instructors offer detailed alignment based instruction and movement of the body is synchronized with the breath.
  • Yin yoga: In this slow-paced style, students hold their postures for longer periods of time in order to apply moderate stress to connective tissues, which helps boost flexibility and circulation.
  • Ginastica Natural: This strength-training system employs bodyweight exercises inspired by jiu-jitsu and hatha yoga.
