For many young people, quality arts education is as elusive as it is rewarding. Innovative arts-integrated learning engages students in the artistic process while simultaneously enhancing their overall literacy and communication skills. A recipient of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, Young Playwrights’ Theater serves more than 1,000 students in DC-area schools with high-caliber arts training, inspiring the students to create through interactive in- and after-school playwriting programs.
To showcase the work of its young scribes, once a year Young Playwrights’ Theater hosts its New Play Festival, providing an opportunity for budding playwrights to see the fruits of their creative labor flourish on stage. Watching their work as it's performed for an appreciative audience may be a student's first taste of artistic accomplishment, substantiating in them a desire to expand their horizons academically and creatively. The students collaborate with professional actors, dramaturges, and directors to produce 15 student-written plays during three nights. In addition to its benefits to the writers as individuals, the festival—which audiences attend free of charge—enhances public regard for young artists and fosters a dialogue regarding matters of vital importance to the community.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Young Playwrights’ Theater encourage DC-area youths to grow socially and intellectually through the arts. If G-Team members raise $1,000, they'll sponsor the closing night of YPT's New Play Festival. Any additional funds raised will support the festival's opening night. G-Team members are encouraged to see their generosity at work by attending the festival’s closing night, “Groupon Night,” on April 13 at 7 p.m. at the GALA Hispanic Theatre in Columbia Heights.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
