Clay, like opinions and dioramas of your high school prom, can be moulded, painted, and engulfed in sweet, sweet fire. Make more material memories with today’s Groupon: for $50, you get three pottery classes, as well as clay, firing, and glazes (a $100 total value), at Yunomi Studio & Gallery on Gamma Street.
The two-hour classes, led by clay maestro Ann Coleman, guide newcomers and experienced potters alike in the creation of beautiful, structurally sound ceramics. To prevent students from engaging in deadly wheel-duels, Yunomi keeps classes at a small size—eight or fewer terracotta soldiers per session. The class schedule is flexible enough to accommodate even the busiest of potters, and the studio recommends the classes be spaced out over about three weeks.
Yunomi Studio & Gallery
At Yunomi Studio & Gallery, potter Monika Burrell, a graduate of Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, welcomes children aged 6-12 to make use of the space’s 10 wheels and three kilns. Three- and six-lesson packages give kids the chance to spin, sculpt, and fire their own masterpieces. Adults looking to work independently can use the studio on their own. Yunomi sells clay and includes glazes and firings in the studio usage cost.
