• For $15, you get a one-hour guided horseback trail ride (a $30 value).
• For $225, you get a spot in a horseback-riding summer camp for five full days (up to a $450 value).
On 7 acres of rolling grass pastures and winding trails, professional trainers at Desert Acres Stables head trail rides and seasonal camps to help riders master the basics of equestrianism. One-hour guided jaunts weave through the ranch's surrounding flora, leading jockeys past local wildlife including gopher tortoises, eagles, and feral Girl Scouts. Riding speed will vary based on individual experience, ranging between walks, trots, and canters. The stable provides saddlebags so riders can stow away cameras and lockets containing cherished salt licks.
Each day of the full-day summer camp, cavaliers will spend up to two hours practicing riding styles such as English and Western atop trusty stallions. When not steering steeds, campers drink from a full trough of ranch activities, with possible pastimes including relaxing on hay rides, chasing down chickens, and naming famous jockeys, including the headless horseman and the guy who rode Seabiscuit. Full-day summer camps run Monday–Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The camp provides protective headgear and boots along with daily lunches, snacks, and water.
