Before man conquered his fear of water, he amused himself with dust sports such as pushing boulders off cliffs, wrestling tumbleweeds, and falling in the dust. Valiantly slosh in nature’s bathtubs with today's Groupon: for $25, you get a fly-casting lesson (a $50 value) at Fishermen's Spot in Van Nuys. This Groupon includes 10% off your first in-store purchase.

Steve Ellis spurned the 9-to-5 lifestyle to found Fishermen's Spot, where he teaches the angling-curious about fly fishing and harbors an extensive line of fishing equipment. Casting lessons are limited to two students, ensuring individual casting-technique attention and making two-on-two basketball games impossible. With improved casting skills and a streamlined routine, fly fishers will be more productive on the pond, potentially single-handedly catching enough largemouth bass, carp, and panfish to power a submarine rigged with a fish-powered engine. Students can bring their own gear or use Fishermen's Spot's top-notch utensils at no extra cost.

About Fishermen's Spot

Steve Ellis and Ken Lindsay have traveled far and wide to hone their fly-fishing skills—they bring knowledge gained in Belize, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, and several US states to their Van Nuys fly-fishing shop, Fishermen’s Spot. For the past four decades, the shop has stocked high-quality fishing gear from makers such as Sage, Simms, Winston, and Abel, as well as vintage equipment such as bamboo rods and ancient flies that still haven't evolved wings. To complement these wares, the shop offers classes that help students master fly-fishing basics, such as casting, selecting tackle and flies, and tying knots.

For someone looking to get into fly fishing this is the only way to go. Dave was excellent and very patient with my two teenage boys. The store also has everything you need to start your fly fishing adventures. We actually upgraded the one hour to the all 101 class . It actually taught you all the basics that I was not aware of.

The lesson and instructor were great. This was my second time using this Groupon and I still learned new tips and refined my technique. Everyone at the store is very friendly and helpful. I always enjoy visiting this store and spending hours looking at the gear and asking questions.
