Michael Londra's Celtic Yuletide
Michael Londra performing "Beyond the Star"
Although he's been hailed as one of the best Irish singers of our time, the talent of Michael Londra's tenor overrides that regional qualifier. First seen in the states while leading Riverdance's Broadway reign, Londra quickly entered the ranks of stars such as Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, and Sarah Brightman as his powerful bellow bowled over international audiences. Having earned two Emmy nominations for his hit PBS special, Beyond Celtic, and having recorded what may be the most downloaded version of "Danny Boy," Londra turns his vocal mistletoe to the holiday season with Celtic Yuletide. Weaving stories of his homeland with Gaelic interpretations of fabled Christmas carols, he transforms ditties such as "The First Noel" and "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" into the melodies of the sirens. Classical-crossover violinists, singers, and sisters Joyce and Ruth O'Leary, better known as Sephira, add harmonies and strings to the yuletide affair, while world champion Irish step dancers and an orchestra full of pipes and fiddles turns Lakeland into a sunny, bizzaro version of Dublin.
