As the editor in chief of blog
Running With Heels, Lauren Doyle logs her fair share of miles in sky-high stilettos. Between sitting down to interview Stuart Weitzman and keeping tabs on red-carpet footwear trends, she’s picked up a few tips for staying comfortable while looking fashionable: keep an emergency pair of heels at the office, wear inserts, and generously apply
FootGloss, a wax that prevents chafing and blisters. Of course, sometimes the best tip is to opt for a chic pair of flats. Below, in her own words, Lauren shares her favorite spring shoe trends—from the down to earth to the downright towering—and where to find them.
Flats
You need a good pair of flats for running around the city, and I refuse to buy them now unless they have a pointed toe. Matt Bernson, who is based in Tribeca, has created a warm-weather version of the smoking slipper that comes in dozens of great prints, though I really like this
suede perforated version.
Sandals
For flat sandals, I am really into a minimalist leather look with a simple toe strap. Luckily, there are a ton of options at all price points. Etienne Aigner is set to open a flagship store this spring on Greene Street in SoHo. I love this mixed-media pair of
leather and linen.
Wedges
Kork-Ease makes probably the most comfortable wedges I own, a necessity for spring and summer. They started in Brooklyn in 1953 and are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year. The
Bette is a classic style that you can find at the family-owned Tip Top Shoes on the Upper West Side.
Metallic
If you’re going to do metallic this spring in any form, go for a shiny mirrored version. The Piperlime store on Wooster Street has tons of options. I’m obsessed with this
See by Chloe wedge.
Mules
I am loving peep-toe mules for spring and for next fall, too. There are chic single-sole options popping up everywhere, but
Carlo Pazolini has a great platform style in their flagship SoHo store on Broadway if you’re looking for extra height.
