See All Seven Caves
This tour covers all seven caves carved into La Jolla’s golden sandstone cliffs—Sunny Jim’s, Arch, Clam’s, White Lady, Little Sister, Shopping Cart, and Sea Surprize. Each one looks a little different depending on the tide and light: some open wide and echo, others hide behind curtains of kelp. Sunny Jim’s is the only cave you can also reach by land, through a century-old tunnel that’s part history, part workout. Clam’s Cave is the one visible from shore, often framed by a few lazy sea lions. Out on the water, the rest appear in sequence like a slow reveal—arches, folds, and streaks of color showing how wind and waves have been shaping this coast for ages.
Marine Neighbors, Up Close
First, you'll enter calm waters. You'll even expect them to stay so... But then the shoreline animates— sea lions on the ledges, harbor seals surfacing between swells, flashes of garibaldi in the light. Then the water opens, and a dolphin slides up close. That's the ocean's way to say hello!

FAQs
What should guests wear for the La Jolla Kayak Tour?
Getting wet is part of the entertainment, so comfort counts. Most guests wear swimsuits or lightweight quick-dry clothing and apply sunscreen before check-in. Towels and a dry change of clothes make the post-tour return easier. Water shoes or strapped sandals work best—they stay on when the splash zone gets personal.
Are there age or weight restrictions?
Because this is open-ocean kayaking, participants must be comfortable in the water without relying on a personal flotation device for basic swimming. The minimum age for the La Jolla 7 Caves Kayak Tour is five. Weight limits are 275 pounds for a single kayak and 450 pounds for a double. Guides check setups before launch to keep everyone within safe capacity.
What happens if the ocean gets rough?
When the Pacific decides to show off, the guides adjust. Strong swell, wind, or wave direction can change the route or pause cave entry—especially at Clam Cave. If the conditions aren’t right for safety or comfort, tours and rentals are rescheduled or canceled altogether. The staff follows a “safety first, scenery second” policy, and everyone still leaves with good photos and dry humor.

About Bike and Kayak Tours - La Jolla
A crew of former athletes and passionate locals with a love for the outdoors wait beneath the bright-red awnings at each Bike & Kayak Tours location to guide multiple expeditions through the natural sights around San Diego. Since lessons are included—along with life vests—no prior kayaking experience is needed, and tour-goers can choose between single, double, and triple sit-on-top kayaks designed for stability.
The 7 Caves and Ecological Reserve kayak tour sends paddlers on an expedition to a 75-million-year-old sandstone cliff with seven sculpted sea caverns that resound echoes in seven-part harmony. Another tour brings kayakers along the San Diego Bay, emphasizing the city's architecture with views of the skyscrapers and the award-winning Coronado Bridge. In the spring, snorkeling trips follow the seasonal migration of leopard sharks as students paddle in the shallow waters of the sandy flats with harmless predators.
