Shirley Collins started Sur La Table in 1972 in Seattle’s Pike Place Market.. Though originally pretty small, the first store was well stocked with rare kitchenware from around the world. Today, Sur La Table has grown to over 100 stores across the United States, with instructional kitchens in more than 50 locations. As a result Sur La Table has become one of the largest avocational cooking schools in the United States.
